Nellie's father was James Gold and her mother was Stewart Houston Sinclair. Her paternal grandparents were William Gold and Mary Drummond. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Archibald, James, John, John, Stewart and Mary. She was the youngest of the seven children. She died at the age of 78 in 1978 in Larbert.
