Margaret's father was William Flinn and her mother was Agnes Lawson. Her paternal grandparents were William Flinn and Mary Carson. She had two brothers and six sisters, named William, John, Mary, Helen, Jean, Agnes, Agnes and Janet. She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
