John's father was Thomas Crosbie and his mother was Helen Cunningham. His maternal grandparents were Alexander Cunningham and Margaret Mitchell. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, William, Irvine, Archibald, Margaret, Jean and Blanche. He was the fourth youngest of the eight children. He died at the age of 53 on November 9th, 1932. He was buried in Allegheny.
