Thomas was born on October 30th, 1748 in Dunipace. Thomas' father was Thomas Bruce and his mother was Isobel Rob. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William, John, James, James, Agnes, Margaret and Isobel.  He was the youngest of the eight children.
