Robert was born in 1761.  Robert's father was Benejah PENNINGTON and his mother was Elizabeth HUMPHERYS.  His paternal grandparents were Ephraim PENNINGTON and Unknown.  He had four brothers and a sister, named Richard, Micajah, Timothy, Joshua and Jemima.  He was the fifth oldest of the six children.
