Thomas was born about 1748 in Chowan Co. North Carolina.  Thomas' father was Edward Ned Vann Sr and his mother was Mary Lewis Barnes (Ani'-Ga'tâge'wi = Kituah or Wild Potato).  His paternal grandparents are John B TRADER Vann and Anikawi (Ani'-Kawi' = Deer Clan (Ga-ho-ga)); his maternal grandparents were Richard Barnes Jr and April Tikami Hop Cornstalk Turkey (Ani'-Ga'tâge'wi = Kituah or Wild Potato). He had six brothers named John Joseph, Charles B, Edward B, Dempsey, Henry and James Clement.  He was the youngest of the seven children. He had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named James Clement B, Thomas B, Avery, Edith and Susannah.  He died in January 1840 in Madison County, Alabama.
