George was born about 1726 in VA.  George's father was George Tankersley and his mother was Mary Longley Long.  His paternal grandparents were Reuben Tankersley and Sarah Ann Beverley. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Reuben, Richard, John, Dorcas, Mary and Sarah.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died about 1806 in Port Royal, Caroline Co. VA.
