Joseph was born in April 1714 in Detroit   Ste-Anne-de-Détroit.  Joseph's father was Joseph Montour and his mother was Elizabeth Isabelle MONTIO/ONONTIO (Huron).  His paternal grandparents were Louis Couc Dit Montour (LAFLEUR) and Jeanne Quigesiag/Quiquetigoukoue QUIGESIG8K8É OUIGATIGOCON. He had a sister named Madeline.  He was the younger of the two children.
