Thomas was born in 1853 in Québec, Canada.  Thomas' father was John Marshall and his mother was Sarah SHEVENELL.  His paternal grandparents were Alexander Marshall and <Unknown>. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Alexander, Robert, James, Ellen and Jane.  He is the fifth oldest of the seven children.
