Samuel was born on February 21st, 1803 in Cross Creek Tp, Washington, PA and his baptism took place on October 1st, 1809 in Cross Creek, Presby Ch.  Samuel's father was Robert Cross Creek Marshall and his mother was Elinor Hayes.  His paternal grandparents were James Of Drumore  Marshall and Jean Gene Jane poss Lenape Del???; his maternal grandparents were Pvt Thomas Hayes and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Joseph, William, John Hamilton, Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth, Jane, Nancy and Esther.  He was the seventh oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 21 on June 1st, 1824.  He was buried in Cross Creek, Washington, PA.
