Mary Wilmer was born about 1843 in Roxobel, Charlotte County, Virginia.  Mary Wilmer's father is Judge Hunter Holmes Marshall and her mother is Sarah Wilmer Stith.  Her paternal grandparents are Capt John Marshall and unk Legrand OR Holmes; her maternal grandfather was Griffin Stith and her maternal grandmother is Mary Ann Wilmer. She had five brothers and a sister, named Griffin Stith, Hunter Holmes, Charles Van Lennep, William Leigh, John and Rebecca.
