Malcolm Lawrence was born in 1879 in Québec, Canada.  Malcolm Lawrence's father was John Marshall and his mother is Margaret Shaw.  His paternal grandparents were John Marshall and Sarah SHEVENELL; his maternal grandparents are John Shaw and Sarah McPhail. He has two brothers and three sisters, named John Alexander, James Irvine, Catherine, Jessie and Margaret.  He is the third oldest of the six children.
