John A Marshall

    I found in HISTORY OF ILLINOIS and HER PEOPLE, by Pro. Geo. W. Smith, M.A., Vol
    VI, 1927., a biography on John A. Marshall from Mason Co., IL who was born at
    Pleasent Valley, Ohio in 1846.  He was supposed to have been brought to Kankakee
    
    Co., IL. at the age of two.  It goes on to say he is a great-grandson of John
    Marshall, a Virginian and (not distantly related to the famous Chief Justice
    John Marshall.)
    
    His grandfather was Joshua Marshall, born in Pennsylvania and his grandmother
    was Sarah Hagues.
    
    His father was Joshua Marshall, Jr., and mother Drusilla Rakestraw.
    
    My questions are, how trustworthy are these biographys, and has anyone else been
    able to locate proof of where exactly this particular great-grandfather, John
    Marshall came from in Virginia? Joshua was supposedly born in Pennsylvania and
    don't know if his parents moved to Virginia.  Joshua and Sarah were married in
    Loudoun Co., Virginia 1804.
    
    This is the first time I have heard the name of Joshua Marshall, Sr.'s father,
    as John.
    
    There seems to be a lot of lines on the famous Chief Justice John Marshall, but
    the claim that Joshua's father, John is not distantly related doesn't help, if
    his line hasn't been included.
    
    Also I have found Sarah Hagues' name spelled several different ways.  In one
    account her name was Haynes.  I've heard that they were Society of Friends, but
    haven't found evidence of that.  A lot of Marshall families, but not this one.
    
    Has anyone been able to break the brick wall on this line?  Thanks, so much.
