    Will of Sarah Yates, St. Mary's Co. (of Charles Co.), 14 Dec 1775-31 Mar 1780. LIBER: JJ #1 FOLIO: 134.
    Son-in-law: James Jordan of St. Mary's County, is to take charge of all my chattles and effects and to dispose of them except as hereafter specified.
    Daughter: Anne Jordan, wife of James Jordan (and their heirs), are to enjoy whatever balance may be left.
    Little Grandson: John Bruce, a negro boy named Tom.
    Little Grandson: William Bruce, a negro girl named Moll.
    James Jordan is to keep the negroes devised above and to hire them out. The money from their hire is to be used to educate the boys until they come of age at which time they are to receive the negroes and their increase. If one grandson dies, the survivor is to inherit his share. If both boys die, their four younger sisters, my granddaughters, are to divide the money as they come of age or marry.
    Granddaughter: Sarah Muir of Virginia, a negro girl named Judy. James Jordan is to keep the negro for the personal use and benefit of Sarah during the whole time of her coverture. The negro Judy and her increase shall never come to the possession of Sarah Muir unless she becomes a widow. James Jordan is to pay to Sarah Muir annually the profits from Judy for her personal use only.
    Grandson: Henry Jordan of St. Mary's County, my large silver soup spoon at my death.
    Granddaughter: Sarah Locke of St. Mary's County, my silver pint can at my death.

    Anne was married to James Jordan prior to 1750: James Jordan says he will not pay any debts contracted by his wife, Anne Jordan, living in St. Mary's County, from this time. (The Maryland Gazette, 18 Apr 1750).
