Robert was born in 1198 in Stockport, Cheshire, England.1 Robert's father was Robert de Stockport and his mother was Matilda Banastre. His paternal grandparents were Robert FitzWaltherof and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Robert de Banastre and <Unknown>. He was an only child.
