William de Paynel

William was born in 1085 in Drax, Yorkshire, England.¹   William's father was Ralph de Paynel I and his mother was Maud de Surdeval.  His maternal grandparents were Richard de Surdeval and <Unknown>. He had three brothers named Jordan, Helias and Alexander.  He was the oldest of the four children.
