Maud was born in 1136 in Diss, Norfolk, England.1  Maud's father was Sir Richard (The Loyal) de Lucy and her mother was Rohesia de Clare.  Her paternal grandparents were Adrian de Lucy and Aveline Goth; her maternal grandparents were 1st Earl of Pembroke, Earl de Clare, Abbot of Ely Gilbert FitzRichard de Clare and Adeliza de Clermont. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Geoffrey, William, Aveline and Alice. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Walter, Mary and Emma.  She died at the age of 107 in 1243.1
