Flavius was born in 0379.  Flavius' father was Theodosius I and his mother was Aelia Flavia Flaccilla.  His paternal grandparents were Theodosius L'ancien and Thermentia L'ancienne. He had two brothers and a sister, named Archadius, Homerius and Pulcheria. He had a half-sister named Galla.
