Crabtree's father was William Crabtree and his mother was Jane Hostead. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Crabtree and Elizabeth Webber; his maternal grandparents were James Hostead and Grace Cortney. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William, John, Samuel, Crabtree, Crabtree, Crabtree and Crabtree.-
