Mary was born about 1796 and her baptism took place on May 24th, 1801 in North Bradley.1  Mary's father was Henry Lucas and her mother was Kezia Read.  Her maternal grandparents were Joseph Read and Catherine Loader. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Thomas, Peter, Mary, Job, Jane and Betty. She had a half-sister named Susanna.
