Maria was born on June 24th, 1831 in Road, North Bradley.1   Maria's father was George Huntley and her mother was Mary Ann. She had seven brothers and a sister, named John, John, Thomas, Thomas, Benjamin, Benjamin, Mark and Maria.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
