Joseph was born on October 10th, 1822 in North Bradley and his baptism was conducted by Josh Clift.1 2   Joseph's father was Benjamin Clift and his mother was Jane Wooley.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Clift and Susanna. He had two sisters named Susanna and Elizabeth.  He was the second oldest of the three children.
