James' baptism took place on June 26th, 1737 in North Bradley.1  James' father was Joseph Butcher and his mother was Jane Silverthorne.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Butcher Jun. and Mary; his maternal grandparents were James Silverthorn and Sarah. He had a brother named Joseph. He had a half-brother named Jeremiah.  He died in 1787.  He was buried on October 8th, 1787 in North Bradley.2
