Mildred was born in 1858 in Stranton Durham.1  Mildred's father was Henry Richard Ridley and her mother was Georgiana Augusta Frederica Bradford.  Her maternal grandparents were Sir Thomas Bradford and Mary Ann Atkinson. She had four sisters named Edith, Mabel, Maude and Bertha.  She was the youngest of the five children.
