Alice was born in 1827 in Uny Lelant Cornwall and her baptism took place there on February 24th, 1828.1 2  Alice's father was Clement Uren and her mother was Alice Harris.  Her paternal grandparents were Clement Uren and Amy Wearn. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Clement, Henry, William, Richard, Amy, Ann, Jemima and Jane.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
