Katharine or Catherine was born on July 14th, 1862 in Wallington, Surrey.1  Katharine or Catherine's father was Henry Smith and her mother was Mary Ann Hunt.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Smith and Mary; her maternal grandparents were William Hunt and Edith. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Edmund, George, Thomas, Walter, Mary and Sarah.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 66 in 1928.

Katharine or Catherine and John were married in a religious ceremony on July 21st, 1885 in Parish Church, Croydon witnessed by Ebenezer Whittaker & Ann Goodwin.3  They had three sons and four daughters, and also a child of unknown gender, named John, Walter, William, Amelia, Katharine, Dolly, Daisy and Unknown.
