He was a pillar of the chapel, being a respected local preacher, and so the scandal was the greater when, after the comparitively early death of his wife (when he was 45), his housekeeper became pregnant and he married her. This scandal so upset his three daughters that each of them got married as soon as opportunity presented.

Undertook dispensing at the request of the local doctor (Ralph Burnham), who fearing making a fatal prescribing error when under the influence of drink - to which he was partial. M. H. Skinner an early (?Founder) Meber of the Pharmaceutical Society and he did a good trade in medecines, not only for the people but also veterinary remedies and was credited with remarkable cures. A noebook exists, containing some handwritten prescriptions and others cut out of newspapers, etc.Occupation Notes
