Francis was born in 1792 and his baptism took place on August 26th, 1792 in Holme Next The Sea, Norfolk, England. Francis' father was Willm. Potter and his mother was Alice Thacker.  His maternal grandparents were John Thacker and Mary. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Willm., John, Catherine, Mary and Sarah.  He was the third youngest of the six children.
