Willem Stefanus, known as Willie, was born on February 20th, 1876 in Heidelberg Cape.1   Willie's father was Lourens Johannes Rootman and his mother is <Unknown>.  His paternal grandfather was Johannes Paulus Rootman and his paternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had seven brothers and a sister, named Johannes Paulus, Wynand Hendrik, Lourens Johannes, Marthinus Johannes Jacobus, Elias Johannes, Michiel Ferdinand Johannes, Hennie and Elsabe Cornelia.  He was the youngest of the nine children.  Willem Stefanus, known as Willie, is no longer alive.
