Jan Hendrik Kleynhans was born on April 17th, 1864 in Heidelberg Cape.1   Jan Hendrik Kleynhans' father was Johannes Hendrik (Jan) Rootman and his mother was Susanna Geertruida Louw.  His paternal grandparents were Johannes Marthinus Rootman and Anna Helena Prinsloo; his maternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Marthinus Johannes, Lourens Johannes, Daniel Richard Abraham, Frederik Christoffel Jacobus, Adriaan Jacobus, Anna Margaretha Helena and Susanna Gertruida.  He died at the age of 75 on July 11th, 1939.  He was buried in Oudshoorn.1
