Maria, known as Marie, was born on April 22nd, 1925 in Lydenburg. Marie's father was Dirk Jacobus Winterbach and her mother was Maria (Katie) Catharina Magdalena Roos. Her paternal grandparents were Johan Carel Winterbach and Susanna Jocina Malan; her maternal grandparents were Gerhard Roos and Miemie Ebersohn. She had a brother and a sister, named Johan and Sue. She was the oldest of the three children. She died from cancer, Brain, at the age of 73 on December 27th, 1998 in Kuilsrivier. The funeral took place on December 29th, 1997 in Kuilsrivier. She was cremation on April 22nd, 2009 in De Doorns, Nis nr 35.¹
