Carel Gerrit Winterbach 
Carel was born on August 5th, 1820 and his baptism took place on November 2nd, 1820 in Tulbagh.1 Carel's father was Johannes Carel Winterbach and his mother was Dorethea Elizabetha Theron. His paternal grandparents were Johann Carl Winterbach and Maria Magdalena Huijsamer. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Johannes, Pieter, Hendrik, Dirk, Maria, Johanna, Dorothea, Susanna and Anna. He was the fifth youngest of the ten children. He died at the age of 24 on March 9th, 1845.1 General Notes
