Josephus was born on April 18th, 1927 in Paal.  Josephus' father was Carolus Emilius Schoofs and his mother was Stephania Scholastica Theresia Loos.  His paternal grandparents were Jozef Schoofs and Catherina Gaethofs.  He has two brothers and three sisters, named Maurice, Louis, Juliette, Angela and Maria.  He is the oldest of the six children.
