Theresia was born on October 13th, 1815 in Lummen.  Theresia's father was Pierre Jean Steegmans and her mother was Anne Elisabeth Claes. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Pierre Jean, Ludovicus, Anna Catherina and Carolina.  She was the oldest of the five children.
