Mary was born on September 1st, 1870 in Fordell, Dalgety.1   Mary's father was Archibald Muir and her mother was Christana Brown.  Her paternal grandparents were David Muir and Elspet Beveridge; her maternal grandparents were George Brown and Mary McNeil.  She had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named David, William, Archie, Sandy and Janet.
