Michael was born on February 28th, 1847 in Dysart.  Michael's father was John Johnstone and his mother was Margaret Blyth.  His paternal grandparents were James Johnstone and Anne Wilson; his maternal grandparents were Michael Blyth and Jane Duncan.  He had two brothers named James and David.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died  due to chronic prostatitis, 4 months at the age of 68 on February 14th, 1916 in Fordell, Dalgety.1
