Hùng was born in 1947. Hùng's father was Dương Văn Tích and his mother was Nguyễn Thị Nhì (Thứ 10). His maternal grandparents were Nguyễn Hữu Hành and Ngô Thị Thông. He had a brother and two sisters, named Anh, Vân and Ánh. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died from cancer, Cancer đường ruột, at the age of 62 in 2009 in Georgia USA.

- Hùng and family was evacuated to the US through the Humanitarian Operation (HO) . He settled in Georgia and made a living by working as a Houseman for a Hotel
