Kenneth was born on October 19th, 1756 in Dalgety, Fife, , Scotland.  Kenneth's father was William May and his mother was Jean Wylie.  His paternal grandfather was David May and his paternal grandmother is Anna Chapman; his maternal grandfather is James Weily Skinner. He had three brothers named Robert, John and William.  He was the second youngest of the four children.
