Avery was born in 1689 in Richmond, Wise, Virginia, United States.  Avery's father was Arthur Dye and his mother is Katherine Hopkins.  His paternal grandfather was Martin Dye and his paternal grandmother is Margaret Sisson.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 68 in 1757 in Lynchburg, Richmond, Virginia, United States.
