Bessie was born on December 1st, 1881 in Milang, SA.1 Bessie's father was William Marshall OCKENDEN and her mother was Mary Elizabeth BARRETT. Her paternal grandparents were Palmer OCKENDEN and Emma MARSHALL; her maternal grandparents were Ambrose BARRAT and Mary. She had four brothers and a sister, named Archibald, William, Frank, Frederick and Effie. She was the youngest of the six children.-
