Ernest was born in 1896.  Ernest's father was Earnest George DOWNING and his mother was Alice Eliza GOULDEN. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Stanley, Tim, Beatrice, Lily, Dorothy, Dinks and Flo.  He was the youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 35 on September 22nd, 1931.
