Kate Hawes was born about 1866 in Haverhill, Suffolk, England.1   Kate Hawes' father is Thomas Gowers and her mother was Matilda Hawes.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Gowers and Rebecca Farrant; her maternal grandparents were George Hawes and Charlotte Mayer. She had nine brothers and eight sisters, named Thomas, Thomas, George, John Hawes, William Hawes, Frank Hawes, Frank, Tom, John, Emily Hawes, Eliza, Ellen, Eliza Hawes, Ellen, Martha Hawes, Ellen Hawes and Alice Hawes. She has a half-brother and a half-sister, named John and Ellen.
