Henry George was born in 1857.  Henry George's father was George Henry Tarr and his mother was Elizabeth Babbage.  His paternal grandparents were John Back Tarr and Mary Francis Gribble; his maternal grandparents were James Babbage and Elizabeth Hexter. He had two brothers and a sister, named James William, Charles John and Elizabeth H.  He was the oldest of the four children.
