Henry was born on December 14th, 1713 in Horsley, Derby, England and his baptism took place on December 14th, 1713 in Breadsall, Derby, England. Henry's father was Henry Stanley and his mother was Grace Bentham.  His maternal grandparents were Benjamin Bentham and Unknown. He had two brothers named Isaac and Abraham.  He was the oldest of the three children.
