Richard was born in 1638 in Thornage, Norfolk, England.  Richard's father was Thomas Girdlestone and his mother was Elizabeth Pyle.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Girdlestone and Elizabeth Unknown. He had three brothers and a sister, named Thomas, James, John and John.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 72 in 1710 in Letheringsett, Norfolk, England.
