Jean was born on May 25th, 1806 in Newton, Midlothian, Scotland. Jean's father was James Barrowman and her mother was Jean Mucklejohn. Her paternal grandparents were James Barrowman and Elizabeth Vallance. She had two brothers and two sisters, named James, Alexander, Janet and Marion. She was the oldest of the five children.-
