  Jacob Younkin, his great-grandfather, emigrated from Germany, settling in Loudoun County, Virginia, and later came to Pennsylvania.

Jacob's father was Johann Heinrich “Henry” Junghen and his mother was Catharina Scherer (Junghen). His paternal grandparents were ? Junghen and ? ? (Junghen); his maternal grandparents were Henry Scherer and ? ? (Scherer). He had four brothers and four sisters, named John, Frederick, Rudolph, Henry, Dorthea, Anna, Anna and Catharina. He died at the age of 50 on July 26th, 1811 in Turkeyfoot Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, USA. He was buried at the Crossroads Cemetary, Harnedsville, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, USA.¹¹
