Benjamin was born on September 26th, 1795.  Benjamin's father was Ameda Bourque and his mother was Rosalie Mire.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Bourque and Marie Leblanc; his maternal grandparents were Joachim  (Bénoni) dit Bénoni Lemire and Madeleine Melançon. He had two brothers and a sister, named Jean, Zenon and Marie.  He was the oldest of the four children.
