His paternal grandparents were Aubrey (10th Earl of Oxford) De Vere and Alice Fitzwalter; his maternal grandparents were Richard Sergeaux and Phillippa Fitzalan. He had a sister named Sir Robert. He was the son of Richard de Vere, 11th Earl of Oxford and Alice Sergeaux.
He married Elizabeth Howard, daughter of John Howard, 1st Duke of Norfolk and Catherine Moleyns, circa 1425.
He died circa 1461, beheaded for treason.
