Her paternal grandparents were August Graf and Amelia (Amilie) Krause; her maternal grandparents were Willliam Lampert and Kathrine Gardner. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Carl Herman, Edward Eugene, Ida Marie "Susie", Bertha and Augusta Claire "Gussie". She was the third youngest of the six children.-
